History

The Marlboro Hockey Club founded in 1902, is the second oldest continuous run hockey club in the city behind only the "University of Toronto Varsity Blues", which fielded its first team in 1891. Even the storied Toronto Maple Leafs are younger, having played its initial season in 1931. This section is dedicated to the executives, players and parents that have made the "Marlboros" the most famous name in all of amateur hockey.

2011 NHL Draft

2011 NHL DraftThe "Class of 1993" continued the Marlboro tradition of developing players ready to move to higher levels beyond Minor Hockey. In all, five players were drafted in this year's NHL Draft coached by Ken Strong.

Round 1

Ryan Strome, 5th Overall - N.Y. Islanders
Stuart Percy, 25th Overall - Toronto Maple Leafs

Round 2

Adam Clendenning, 36th Overall - Chicago Blackhawks
Brett Ritchie, 44th Overall - Dallas Stars
Lucas Lessio, 56th Overall - Phoenix Coyotes

2010 OHL Priority Draft

The 2010 OHL Priority Draft came and went with a record number of Draft selections from the 1994 Birthdate Marlboros which were coached by Danny Brown. Below is a summary of players from the Marlboro Organization that were selected.

Toronto Marlboros - Road to the Stanley Cup

A Marlboro team playing for the Stanley Cup? Yes it actually happened! And in this day and age of minor teams playing 120 game schedules, their route to the Stanley Cup was a real “eye opener”!

Capping another outstanding Minor Midget year, the Marlboros are pleased to recognize another group of fine young men drafted by OHL teams. The list includes First Rounders, Christian Thomas, son of former Leaf Steve Thomas and 7 year Marlboro Freddie Hamilton.

2008/09/10 NHL Draft

Although the NHL draft for the years 2008, 2009, and 2010 did not produce significant numbers in terms of players selected, the years certainly produced outstanding quality players being chosen. Most notably John Tavares in 2009 was selected in the First Round, 1st Overall; an accomplishment in the history of the minor organization only achieved by Ricky Nash a few years earlier. In 2010 Christian Thomas, a graduate of the Marlboro system was selected in the Second Round, 40th Overall to follow in the footsteps of his father Steve Thomas a long-term veteran of the NHL. Toronto Marlboro Hockey Club – It's History

While the 2011-2012 season will see the Marlboro minor teams entering their 81st season of competition the actual birth of the hockey club dates back to the turn of another century.

It was in the late 1800's that a group of local sportsmen decided to form a new athletic club in downtown Toronto. The name they chose was "The Toronto Marlborough Athletic Club".

Marlboros Sweep GTHL Standings - 1st Overall once again

For the 9th year in a row the Marlboro Organization has finished 1st Overall in the AAA Division of the GTHL. This is a tribute to the players, coaches and parents that continue to support our program.
