Over the January 20-22 weekend, the Minor Atom team made it a "three-peat" by winning their third consecutive tournament - the 54th edition of the prestigious Preston International Tournament. Their other two recent championship crowns coming in the Bell Capital Cup held in Ottawa and the Shanahan Warrior AAA International. The minor atom division included 16 teams vying for top honours. The Marlboros emerged undefeated in 3 games of round robin play to enter into the playoff round. There, the team dealt a staggering blow to the Barrie Colts, ousting them from quarter-final play in a 6-0 victory.

A determined squad from the Mississauga Senators were next to go, with the Marlboros defeating them by a score of 4-1 in the semi-final match. In the championship game, played in the historic Preston Memorial Auditorium, the team faced the Hamilton Reps, who had defeated the Toronto Nats in the other semi-final. The Hamilton goalie showed some spunk while being peppered by an endless assortment of shots, but the stronger team prevailed, capturing the tournament title with a score of 3 to 1. Wyatt Johnston was named MVP of the final game. The Marlboros outscored their opponents in the tournament by a 26-5 margin.
