NHL Central Scouting released its mid-term rankings last week only to find 7 former Marlboro Grads, coached by Danny Brown and 1 Goalie coached by Ken Strong listed in the top 210 North American skaters and 36 North American Goalies. A total of 6 1994 Birthdate players were selected to participate in the CHL/NHL Top Prospects Game to be played in Kelowna, B.C. in February. The game will be played with the intention of showcasing the top 40 players eligible for the 2012 NHL Draft. All with the exception of goaltender Malcom Subban( coached by Ken Strong) spent their development minor years under coach Brown in the Marlboro Organization. The players selected include: Matthew Finn, Adam Pelech, Scott Kosmachuk, Matia Marcantuoni, Scott Laughton, and Malcom Subban. Good Luck to all in the Game. FIRST FATHER-SON to both score FIFTY GOALS in an OHL season. 
The "Class of 1993" continued the Marlboro tradition of developing players ready to move to higher levels beyond Minor Hockey. In all, five players were drafted in this year's NHL Draft. Coached by Ken Strong, Ryan Strome was selected in the 1st Round, 5th overall by the New York Islanders. A perfect fit where he will join John Tavares, another Marlboro Grad who was 1st overall in 2009. Both are off-season training partners. Stuart Percy followed, being selected in the 1st round, 25th overall by the Toronto Maple Leafs. For Stuart "it was a surreal moment, I've grown up a Leaf fan all my life". Both sets of parents were obviously thrilled and surely are very proud.

Marlboro Grad Sam Gagner once a Marlboro line mate of John Tavares tied a long-standing NHL record in a game against the Chicago Black Hawks. Gagner, now an Edmonton Oiler achieved the extraordinary feat of scoring 4 goals and adding 4 assists to tie a record held by former Oilers Wayne Gretzky and Paul Coffey. Coffey, now a coach in the Marlboro system had nothing but praise for the young Gagner, "I watched the game and it was an incredible performance. It couldn’t have happened to a nicer kid."
